My contribution to the Dallas mayoral debate tonight on TXA 21 was to challenge the candidates to be “visionary” when it comes to the issue of education. Even though the mayor’s office has no direct influence over the Dallas Independent School District, there are things that city government can do to improve the quality of education. This, I think, is an issue where the person in the job needs to be “the ideas guy,” and not just say “well, that’s DISD’s problem, we can’t deal with that.”
