The Pentagon’s announcement that 1,000 National Guard troops will remain deployed along the US-Mexico border is underwhelming to security experts familiar with the inner workings of the Mexican drug cartels.
Fred Burton is one of the top counter-terror and security experts in the world. He served for decades in the Diplomatic Security Service and has extensively studied the drug cartels. He works now as Vice President of Intelligence at Stratfor, based in Austin. In this interview, he and I talked about counter-intelligence operations of the cartels, including plots to kill any Mexican law enforcement officers who cooperate with the United States.
