Texas Education Commissioner Robert Scott
An intense debate has broken out about Texas Education Commissioner Robert Scott’s contention that the tests taken by public school students are a “perversion” of the legislature’s original intent.
Former Superintendent Joe Smith, who also runs the education website Texas ISD, says the commissioner is exactly right and possibly the biggest problem is unequal/unfair funding of schools across Texas.

But, the President and CEO of the Texas Association of Business, Bill Hammond says Smith and Commissioner Scott are dead wrong. He contends turning back the clock on the Texas accountability system would harm students and the strength of the Texas labor force.
